Calculator Effective rate

What are you really paying to accept cards?

Two numbers from one month's statement tell you your effective rate: the real, all-in cost of every dollar you take by card.

Where to find these numbers

Total card sales is usually on the first page of your statement, called total sales, gross sales, total volume, or amount submitted.

Total fees may be called total fees, fees charged, or total discount. If your statement splits fees into sections (discount, interchange, monthly fees), add them all up, monthly fees included.

Use a normal month. A slow month makes your rate look higher, because fixed monthly fees are spread across fewer sales.
