Payment processing for hotels and hotel restaurants
Front desk, deposits, and the hotel restaurant on payments that fit how a hotel actually runs.
Why it's different here
What I look at for hotels
Hotels take payments in several ways at once: a card authorized at check-in, charges added during the stay, reservations paid in advance, and a restaurant or bar that runs like its own business. Travelers also carry a lot of premium and international cards, which cost more to accept.
For hotel restaurants I can set up Tabit, which connects with hotel systems like Opera and RoomMaster so charges can go to the room. And I review your statement so you know what your card mix is really costing you.

Where hotels usually lose money
Authorizations at check-in
Holds that are set wrong either tie up a guest's card or leave you uncovered for incidentals.
Premium and international cards
Travelers use cards that cost more to accept. Your pricing should be built on your real card mix.
Restaurant charges to the room
When the restaurant POS and the hotel system do not connect, room charges get posted by hand.
Advance reservations
Payments taken online or over the phone price differently from cards at the desk, and need to be handled securely.

Questions owners ask me
How much should a hotel authorize at check-in?
Authorize the estimated room charges plus a reasonable amount for incidentals, and add incremental authorizations if the stay or the charges grow. Settle the actual total at checkout so the extra hold is released.
Guests notice large holds most on debit cards, so tell them the amount at the desk.
Can a hotel charge a guest who doesn't show up?
Yes, if the guest agreed to your reservation and cancellation policy when they booked. Card brand rules generally limit a no-show charge to one night's room and tax.
Keep the confirmation that shows the policy and the cancellation deadline. That record is what decides a dispute.
Can guests pay a deposit before they arrive?
Yes. You can send a secure payment link or take the deposit through your booking system, so the card never has to be read over the phone or sent by email.
Online and keyed payments cost more than cards tapped at the desk, so it is worth knowing how much of your volume comes in that way.
